What's on your food plate, Jan?
by: Anonymous

Examples of ratio please(like a lunch or dinner plate). What would that look like?

Dear Anonymous,

For dinner have one serving of salad, one serving of vegetables and one serving of protein (meat, fish, raw nuts and seeds, eggs, dairy products or poultry.) The fats will be in the protein or on the salads and veggies. Or instead you could have one serving of salad, one serving of vegetables and one serving of a low glycemic grain like quinoa.

You could also combine all of it in a big salad or you could have stir fry which would have your fats, protein and vegetables and then a salad to go with it. You can also have fruit for dessert or a fruit in the salad.

Think of it this way. Half of what you eat at a meal will be fresh fruits and veggies. The fats are invisible because they soak into the food. About one quarter of what you eat will either be protein or 100% whole grains. At night do one or the other.

In the morning or at lunch you could have one quarter grains and one quarter protein together because you can eat more food and still work it off with exercise during the day. If you have sensitive digestion don't ever eat them together.

Does this make sense? Once you start eating this way it just becomes intuitive. You may want to look at some of my low glycemic recipes for ideas for meals. Also if you are unsure of serving sizes go to portion control tips.
