How Many Calories Burned...?

     How many calories burned in a day?  That depends. Are you playing ping pong or shoveling snow?   Read on, it's all here.

     Are you wondering what exercise will burn off that 400 calorie hamburger you just splurged on?  What about an hour of an hour of zumba (more than enough) or 2 hours of golf?

      The easiest one by far will be spending the rest of your lunch hour walking back to the office - take the longest route possible!    You will have to walk your dog for another half hour when you get home if you want to zero out that burger.

     Consider this:

Calories burned walking:

4 calories a minute for slow walking

7 calories burned for brisk walking

10 calories burned power walking/jogging

1 hour of brisk walking = 420 calories burned

Calories burned running:

10 calories a minute

1 hour of running = 600 calories burned

     Live near a gym? You may prefer getting in shape swimming laps or taking an aerobics swimming class.

     Water aerobics offers many benefits including no impact on your bones, painless movement and the force of the water giving you enough resistance to do some good!

Calories burned swimming:

10 calories a minute-strenuous strokes

1/2 hour of lap swimming = 300 calories burned

     What about parking your car and riding your bike to work?   Many cities are becoming more bike friendly to get people out of their cars. Bike riding over public transportation is investing in your health!

Calories burned cycling:

4 calories a minute light cycling

7 calories a minute moderate cycling

10 calories a minute vigorous cycling

1 hour of bicycle riding = 600 calories burned


     What else can you do to be active, burn calories, make new friends, learn a new skill and add more adventure to your life?

How many calories used for:

Light activities

4 calories a minute and 240 calories in an hour

golf gardening tennis housework
calisthenics yoga bowling ping pong
ice skating acquarobics skate boarding line/square dancing

Moderate activities

7 calories a minute 420 calories in an hour

light weight training light tennis moderate raquetball
aerobics football grid iron basketball baseball
walking downstairs downhill snow skiing shoveling snow ballroom dancing

Heavy activities

10 calories a minute 600 calories in an hour

weight training wrestling advanced judo advanced racquetball
Tae bo kick boxing football climbing upstairs
skipping cross country skiing advanced acquaerobics dancing/Zumba


     Life is too short to not take up dancing, or...!   If you want a lifetime of fat loss AND more fun than you’ve ever had in your life then get serious about line dancing,  yoga, baseball, gardening...get moving!
