How do I start off with this diet? I'm a beginner so I was just wondering. I've been trying to eat more fruits and veggies, but it hasn't been working out too well. I need to lose 125 pounds, and I'm also insulin resistant. I'm also an endomorph so it's EXTREMELY hard to lose weight. When I was researching about what diet would be best for me to lose all this weight, a low glycemic diet pulled up! I looked into it, and I'm likin' it! So, if you can help me out, that would be great!

Great question Willi! You came to the right place. I'm so glad you liked what you read on my website because this is the way you can eat the rest of your life.

Since you have 125 pounds to lose and you are insulin resistant, I recommend that you start with the insulin resistance diet. Then go to the glycemic index list of foods and print out the 2 lists of low and high glycemic foods. Get rid of all the processed and white foods in your kitchen and make a commitment to eating only whole, real foods. You need to eliminate sugar from your life and that will be easier if you remove the temptations from your own home. Read portion control tips so you know what a serving size looks like and what to eat for a healthy, low glycemic snack.

Basically this is a Mediterranean Diet with an emphasis on high fiber, fresh foods. Keep this simple. Always eat food closest to it's natural state which means fresh or whole grains. The best whole grains for you are barley, bulgur, oatmeal, quinoa and brown rice in moderation. Does this seem complicated? You say you are a beginner. You may need some new recipes and ideas for meals. I recommend reading eating healthy on a budget for some ideas on how to get started. Go to low glycemic recipes for some basic meal suggestions.

You also want to get very serious about exercise. My advice is find something that you love doing that's simple and get moving. The absolute best thing is walking! Walking is a fabulous stress reducer that gets you outside in the fresh air and it can be done almost anywhere. No equipment, gyms or even cars needed. You can walk in the city as well as the country. The main thing is you've just got to do it every single day for at least 30 minutes until you are hooked! You will get hooked eventually.

You said you've been trying to eat more fruits and vegetables and it's not working out too well. I would have to know more about why to help you there.
