Is sugar in soy foods healthy?

I want to know if sugar in soy foods like soy milk or soy ice cream is considered "bad sugar" or its ok to eat. I love ice cream but want to control the sugar. I was surprised there was soy ice cream until I saw it at the store and bought it. It's good but I am scared of the sugar.

I'm afraid so! The sugar in soy milk and soy ice cream is just plain old table sugar and yes, it raises you blood sugar! And unfortunately there's a lot of it in these products. That's why I advise that you look for unsweetened soy milk. I find that wherever you see soy milk there will an unsweetened one nearby. If your store doesn't carry it ask them to order it for you. It'll be plainly marked on the carton. It will taste shockingly plain at first but you will get used to it. If you blend it with frozen fruit it makes a great smoothie! And you can always sweeten it with one of the low glycemic sweeteners if you're putting it on cereal.

You say you love ice cream so why don't you just have it once in a while. Make sure you eat it early enough in the day and do your aerobic exercise after eating it. Also you could try eating fruit sorbets instead when you have a craving for ice cream.

It's better to eat ice cream very occasionally then to drink sugar sweetened soy milk every day.
